The Fadeaway

The fadeaway is a shot that Michael Jordan utilized with incredible efficiency and accuracy later in his career.

It is simply a jump shot, where you are jumping backwards and away from the basket and the defender.

The advantage is that it is very difficult for the defender to block your shot.

The downside is that your momentum is carrying you opposite from the direction you're shooting. So it takes a lot of practice to develop the right accuracy and timing.

Here's how. You're posting up and you can FEEL the defender on you.

  1. Lean into the defender; create some space in between
  2. Establish a pivot foot, and turn towards the basket on your pivot foot side
  3. Now plant your other foot, jump up and away
  4. Release the shot...BAM
